waste provides a way to control batch pressure of a turbocharged charged engine. Exhaust manifolds bypass the exhaust flow from a turbocharged wheel. Exhaust flow exceeds the driving force of a turbocharged wheel to match the power required for a given thrust level. Similar to BOV, waste uses batch pressure and spring force to regulate turbine overflow.

The waste is drawn to the exhaust manifold or head. The advantage of external waste is that the overflow flow can be reinserted into the exhaust stream further downstream from the turbine. This tends to improve the performance of the turbine.
